Driver in Anthony Joshua crash appears in court after being charged over deaths of his two friends
The driver involved in the tragic road accident that claimed the lives of two of Anthony Joshua’s closest friends appeared again today at the Sagamu Magistrates Court in Ogun State.
Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, faces a potential life sentence on charges including causing death by dangerous driving and operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s license.
The fatal collision occurred on December 29 along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when a Lexus SUV carrying Joshua and his team struck a stationary lorry.
While the former heavyweight champion survived with minor injuries, his personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and strength coach, Sina Ghami, were killed in the crash.
Joshua, who has since tattooed their names on his arm, vowed to care for their families: “My goal is to help their families and to help them achieve their goals, even though they may not be here in the physical.”
The 36-year-old boxer emphasized the deep personal loss, stating, “I’m gonna do what’s right by their family… they’re very important players, very important team, with very important friends and two of my brothers.”
The court has adjourned the case until March 13 to allow prosecutors further time to compile evidence before a formal plea is entered.
