Davido thanks father for publicly defending him amid paternity drama

Afrobeats superstar Davido has publicly expressed his gratitude to his father, billionaire businessman Adedeji Adeleke, after the latter addressed the ongoing paternity dispute involving an Ibadan-based lady, Ayo Labinjoh.

The controversy was reignited last week when 12-year-old Aanuoluwapo Adeleke posted an open letter on Instagram, appealing for a fresh DNA test to establish her identity after years of schoolyard bullying. Davido responded on X, formerly Twitter, insisting that five previous tests at various hospitals had already returned negative results.

On Wednesday, January 21, 2026, Dr. Adedeji Adeleke held a rare press conference at his Lagos residence to set the record straight. He revealed that the family had conducted multiple DNA tests since 2014—including one involving samples from Davido’s cousin, B-Red—all of which showed a 0.00% probability of paternity.

“Tracing the matter back to its origin, Adeleke explained that he first became aware of the claim in 2014,” and despite the negative results, he noted that he had privately supported the girl’s education and upkeep over the years. He also threatened legal action against social media personalities for spreading misinformation regarding the case.

Reacting to his father’s public defense, Davido shared a photo of himself and his father on his Instagram Stories on Thursday. The singer expressed his appreciation for the patriarch’s intervention, writing, “Thank you my loving Father.”

While the Adeleke family maintains that the science is settled, Ayo Labinjoh has continued to dispute the validity of the previous tests. She has recently called for a fresh, independent DNA test supervised by the U.S. Embassy, citing Davido’s American citizenship.

The situation remains a major point of discussion across social media, with fans and critics divided over the call for a new, supervised test to resolve the decade-long dispute once and for all.
