2027: I am willing to step aside if a young candidate emerges – Atiku Abubakar
Atiku Abubakar, a prominent figure in the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, has specified the condition under which he would withdraw his presidential bid for the 2027 election.
In an interview with BBC Hausa Service on Wednesday, the former Vice President stated his willingness to step aside for a younger, vibrant and acceptable candidate” within the ADC.
Atiku emphasized that his interest in the 2027 presidential race is not driven by personal ambition, but rather by a desire to provide a credible alternative aimed at rescuing Nigerians.
He also denied claims of being desperate for the presidency, asserting that his only goal is to save Nigeria from those who have held it hostage.
“My being in the 2027 race does not prevent anyone from contesting. If a vibrant and widely accepted younger candidate emerges, I am willing to step aside,” Atiku said.
