Tinubu approves Scholarship scheme for Caribbean students to study in Nigeria
President Bola Tinubu has approved a new scholarship initiative for students from the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) to study at Nigerian universities starting from the next academic year.
Speaking during a joint press briefing in Saint Lucia alongside Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre, Tinubu said the programme is part of a broader effort to strengthen ties between Nigeria and OECS nations in education, trade, agriculture, and food security.
A joint committee has been established to coordinate the scholarships and other areas of collaboration, including plans to introduce visa waivers for holders of diplomatic and official OECS passports.
Prime Minister Pierre described the initiative as a practical show of solidarity, adding that improved air travel, tourism, and educational exchange were key topics during discussions.
Tinubu also addressed a special session of Saint Lucia’s Parliament, where he emphasized his vision for deeper cooperation between Nigeria and the Caribbean region.
