Abuja court sentences man to two years imprisonment for cutting off woman’s finger after he found her with his friend in a room

A man, Mas’ud Yusuf, has been sentenced to two years in prison in Abuja for cutting off his female friend’s finger after finding her with one of his friends. The sentence, handed down by Chief Magistrate Linda J. C at an Abuja magistrates’ court in Jiwa, comes without an option of a fine.

Yusuf, a resident of Dei-Dei market, was charged with causing grievous harm and assault, violating sections 247 and 265 of the Penal Code.

According to Prosecutor J. N. Atinko, the victim, Fatima Muhammad Lawal, reported the incident to the “A” police division in Dei-Dei on January 11. She claimed Yusuf attacked her with a cutlass, severing one finger and injuring another as she tried to shield her neck.

Yusuf admitted to the crime, explaining it was out of anger after seeing her with his friend, and pleaded for leniency in court.
