Religion has done Africa more harm – Film maker, Austin Faani
Austin Faani, Nigerian filmmaker and husband of actress Chacha Eke, expressed his belief that religion has had a negative impact in Africa.
Faani made these remarks while discussing the challenges he faced when his wife was dealing with mental illness. He shared his experience during an event held by the Meticulous People Foundation Outreach, an organization focused on mental health that is owned by Chacha Eke. Faani recounted an incident where a pastor misled him into performing a goat sacrifice in an attempt to cure his wife.
He said: “I’m a very religious person but I believe religion has done more harm to Africans than anything else.
“In November 2012, I took her to a church because I told the pastor that my father-in-law killed a lot of cows for her, he said I should kill something for her. So I ran to Abraka market and bought a big goat for her but at the end of the day, the same thing kept happening to her.
