Super Falcons qualify for World Cup round of 16

The Super Falcons have advanced to the round of 16 in the ongoing Women’s World Cup (WWC).

Nigeria secured their spot in the knockout stage with a crucial goalless draw against the Republic of Ireland at the Suncorp Stadium in Milton, Australia, on Monday.

Having earned four points from their previous two games, Nigeria only needed to avoid defeat against Ireland to progress to the knockout round.

Ireland’s elimination from the competition was confirmed following their 2-1 loss to Canada in their previous match.

The Falcons are billed to play the winner of Group D — England, Denmark, China and Haiti — on August 7.
