Let’s settle political popularity by ballot, not guns’ -Davido slams APC
Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has strongly condemned the shooting of the Osogbo Local Government chairman of the Accord Party, Asimiyu Ajibola, also known as “Baba Isila.” The politician was attacked by suspected gunmen on Wednesday night near the MDS area of Osogbo, Osun State, and is currently receiving medical treatment.
Davido expressed his outrage on X, emphasizing that political competition should never devolve into violence or bloodshed. He challenged the All Progressives Congress (APC) to focus on democratic processes rather than resorting to intimidation, stating, “If APC is sure they are popular, let’s settle this with ballot papers, not guns or weapons.”
The singer further urged all citizens and political actors to prioritize national stability, noting, “Regardless of our political differences, everyone must make sure they are not contributing to insecurity in our nation.” He stressed that the attack must be universally condemned to prevent such acts from undermining the electoral process.
Authorities have confirmed the details of the incident, with the Osun State Police Command launching a high-level investigation into what they termed an attempted assassination. According to Police PRO SP Abiodun Ojelabi, two gunmen on a motorcycle carried out the attack at approximately 9:50 p.m. on Wednesday.
The state government has also called for a professional and thorough investigation, urging law enforcement to identify and prosecute those responsible for the attack. As Osun State prepares for its upcoming governorship election in August, the incident has sparked widespread concerns regarding political safety and the potential for increased tension in the state capital.
