“Don’t Hire a European Coach, go to Nigeria” — Gaye Advises Ghana Ahead of World Cup

Football expert Mamadou Gaye has urged the Ghana Football Association to appoint an African coach instead of a European ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Speaking on SuperSport, Gaye warned that hiring a foreign coach would benefit Europe more than African football, arguing that such coaches often leave immediately after the tournament.

“The biggest mistake Ghana could make is bringing a European coach… once the World Cup is over, he’ll just vanish,” he said.

He advised Ghana to consider experienced African coaches from countries like Nigeria, South Africa, and Ivory Coast if a local option is unavailable.

The Black Stars are yet to appoint a new coach following Otto Addo’s dismissal after a string of poor results, with the team set to face England, Panama, and Croatia in the group stage.
