Omotola Reveals #EndSARS Death Threats Against Children Sparked Shift in Her Activism

Veteran Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has opened up about a harrowing ordeal during the 2020 #EndSARS protests, revealing that death threats directed at her children forced her to rethink her approach to advocacy.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Rubbin’ Minds this Sunday, February 8, 2026, Omotola shared that while she was accustomed to facing personal risks, the intensity of the threats against her family during the anti-police brutality movement was unprecedented.

“I am used to death threats; I have received them many times. But I have never seen anything like what happened during EndSARS. It was intense, my kids started getting death threats. That was when it became real, and when I realised this was no longer just about me,” Omotola said.

The situation grew increasingly dangerous as unidentified individuals began trailing her, searching for her at both her private residence and her place of business, which she described as a wake-up call to prioritize her family’s safety.

“When people started coming to my home and workplace looking for me, I knew it was time to think beyond myself. I had to protect others, especially my children,” she explained, noting that the incident led her to move away from street protests toward more “strategic” advocacy.

Omotola, who was a visible figure at the Lekki Toll Gate demonstrations, admitted that as her children have grown more independent, her ability to shield them has diminished, prompting her to avoid high-risk public confrontations.

“I can’t control where they go. I can’t protect them as much. I don’t care for my life, but I do care for them,” she stated, reflecting on how the trauma of that period fundamentally reshaped her public life.
