Presidency Slams Peter Obi Over Alleged Political “U-Turn” and Desperation

The Presidency has launched a scathing critique of Mr. Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate and recent African Democratic Congress (ADC) member, accusing him of political inconsistency. Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, leveled these accusations following a viral video where Obi appeared to align with figures he previously condemned.

In the footage, Obi acknowledged prominent politicians—including Atiku Abubakar, Nasir El-Rufai, and David Mark—as key leaders, a move Onanuga described as “eating his own vomit.” The Presidency noted that this conciliatory tone contradicts Obi’s 2023 campaign narrative, which was built on dismantling the “structure of criminality” represented by the existing political establishment.

“Peter Obi has set a new record for political desperation. In his pursuit of the presidency, he has shown himself to be unprincipled a politician willing to go back on his words, abandon his political platform if it is no longer a significant factor in his political calculus or permutations, and even “eat his own vomit”,” Onanuga posted on X.

The Presidential aide argued that Obi’s willingness to associate with those he once pilloried suggests a lack of stable ideological conviction and a readiness to shift positions based on current political interests. “In his politics of desperation, he is willing to associate with anyone, including those he had previously pilloried. He can make U-turns on any matter—even on his political ideology, if he has one,” he added.

Furthermore, the Presidency suggested that Obi’s recent actions effectively “throw his supporters under the bus,” particularly those who were drawn to his earlier message of total systemic change. “He certainly lacks the character of a reliable political leader. No one can be sure where he stands on any issue. He shifts with the wind and the trends on X,” Onanuga remarked.

The critique emphasizes that effective leadership requires clarity and consistency, traits the Presidency claims are noticeably absent in Obi’s current political strategy. “As this video clip shows, Obi has now thrown his supporters under the bus, further underscoring his series of contradictions and confusion,” the statement concluded.

Obi, who recently defected to the ADC in late 2025 to join an opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 elections, has defended the move as a necessary step for national rescue. Despite the Presidency’s sharp words, his camp maintains that building a broad-based alliance is the only way to challenge the current administration’s hold on power.
