Museveni Declared Winner of Uganda’s 2026 Presidential Election
Uganda’s electoral commission has declared President Yoweri Museveni the winner of the country’s 2026 presidential election, extending his rule of more than three decades.
The commission’s chairperson, Simon Byabakama, announced that Museveni secured over 7.9 million votes, the highest among all candidates, and crossed the constitutional requirement of more than 50% of valid votes cast.
Official figures show that about 11.4 million Ugandans voted in Thursday’s election, representing a turnout of 52.5% of registered voters.
The election was closely contested and was also marked by an internet blackout and restrictions on civil society groups.
