PDP Expels FCT Minister Wike, Fayose, Anyanwu, Others At National Convention
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) shocked delegates on Saturday after expelling the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti Governor Ayodele Fayose, and former National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu during its national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The dramatic move unfolded before an electrified crowd at the Lekan Salami Stadium, after former National Vice Chairman (South), Chief Olabode George, raised a motion calling for their immediate expulsion. The motion was swiftly seconded by Samaila Buga, Chairman of the PDP in Bauchi State — sealing the trio’s fate in minutes.
The convention itself kicked off amid delays and heavy anticipation. By 1:35 p.m., only 17 states and the FCT had completed accreditation, pushing the main exercise to 4 p.m. to allow late-arriving delegates from distant states.
Inside the stadium, the atmosphere was electric: thousands of party faithful filled the stands in vibrant green, white, and red, chanting solidarity songs and waving placards for their preferred candidates. Voting cubicles stood ready at the centre of the pitch.
Outside, however, the situation was chaotic. Major routes around Adamasingba — including Eleyele, Mokola, Dugbe, Sango, UI, Ojoo, and Agodi Gate — were on lockdown, leaving residents and commercial drivers stranded and increasingly frustrated.
Security was tight, with police, civil defence, and private security personnel combing every entry point to prevent any breach as the convention progressed.
The expulsion of the high-profile members, coming so early in the day, set a charged tone for what is already shaping up to be one of the party’s most consequential conventions in recent years.
