FG Targets Guinness World Record with Longest Dining Table at Upcoming Gastronomy Festival
The Federal Government has announced plans to set a Guinness World Record for the world’s longest dining table as part of the Mega Renewed Hope NIHOTOUR Gastronomy Festival scheduled for December in Abuja.
The initiative was unveiled during a joint press conference by the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, and the Director-General of the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR), Dr. Abisoye Fagade.
This year’s festival, themed “Oriki: Taste of Culture,” will spotlight Nigeria’s diverse culinary traditions while promoting opportunities within the hospitality and creative economy, key elements of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Dr. Fagade revealed that the record attempt will feature a 3.6-kilometre dining table accommodating up to 3,000 participants. The attempt will take place on December 6, followed by a communal dining event later that day featuring food, music, comedy, and cultural showcases.
He emphasized that the festival is part of NIHOTOUR’s drive to strengthen Nigeria’s tourism and hospitality value chain through skills development, entrepreneurship, and youth empowerment, while also attracting investment into the sector.
Minister Musawa described the gastronomy festival as a platform for economic inclusion and youth development, noting that Nigerian cuisine has become a global symbol of creativity and cultural identity.
“Food is a powerful tool for national image-building and cultural diplomacy,” she said, stressing that the initiative aligns with efforts to promote economic growth through culturally relevant industries.
The week-long event will feature culinary masterclasses, exhibitions, cultural performances, food tastings, and investment dialogues, culminating in the formal unveiling by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Abuja.
