Sowore Arrested Outside Abuja Court After Attending Nnamdi Kanu Hearing
Political activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, was on Thursday arrested by armed policemen at the premises of the Federal High Court in Abuja shortly after appearing in support of detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
Sowore, who has been vocal in demanding Kanu’s release, was surrounded by officers who insisted he must follow them to the FCT Police Command. When questioned, one of the policemen stated they were acting on the orders of the Commissioner of Police.
The activist protested the lack of a written invitation and requested that his lawyer accompany him before being taken away in a police van.
This incident comes days after Monday’s #FreeNnamdiKanu protest which Sowore helped organize. During that demonstration, 12 persons, including Kanu’s brother, Emmanuel, and his lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, were arrested and remanded in Kuje Prison.
