
Super Eagles Defeat Lesotho 2–1 to Keep World Cup Hopes Alive
The Super Eagles of Nigeria strengthened their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign with a 2–1 victory over Lesotho on Friday.
Captain William Troost-Ekong opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 55th minute, while substitute Akor Adams doubled the lead in the 80th. Lesotho’s Hlompho Kalake pulled one back in the 83rd minute, but Nigeria held firm to secure the win.
The result places Nigeria third in Group C with 14 points, just one behind South Africa and three behind Benin. The Super Eagles will host Benin Republic in Uyo on Tuesday in what promises to be a crucial encounter for their World Cup qualification hopes.
