Skills acquisition must be your plan B – DG tells Corps members

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig.-Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, has described the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme as a vital “Plan B” for corps members to ensure self-reliance after service.

Speaking to 2025 Batch ‘B’ Stream II corps members in Kaduna, Nafiu urged them to take the SAED training seriously, noting that it equips participants with practical skills for self-employment when promised jobs or white-collar opportunities fail to materialize.

He emphasized that the NYSC scheme is not just about national service but a platform to prepare young Nigerians for future challenges while fostering unity and development.

The DG also advised corps members to save from their monthly allowances, practice financial discipline, and explore entrepreneurship opportunities through the N2 billion government-backed loan scheme, which offers up to ₦5 million at a 9% interest rate, repayable over three years.

Nafiu commended Kaduna State for its continued hospitality and called on the state government and host communities to ensure corps members’ welfare and safety throughout their service year.
