Presidency: When it is the turn of South East, no one is more qualified than me – Umahi

Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has dropped hints about contesting for Nigeria’s presidency in the future, declaring he would run when it is the Southeast’s turn.

Speaking at the Ohanivo 2025 New Yam Festival in Onicha LGA, Ebonyi State, Umahi said it is not yet the turn of the Southeast in 2027 but promised to throw his hat in the ring when the time comes.

The former governor noted that he would showcase the projects President Bola Tinubu had entrusted him with in the region, stressing that the Igbo people would make their judgment at the right time.

Umahi had previously declared his presidential ambition in 2022, following consultations with then-President Muhammadu Buhari, after Tinubu announced his own bid. At the time, Umahi claimed God had directed him to run.

He said: “It’s not our turn, when it’s our turn for the presidency who is more qualified than this me?

“When the time comes I will tell you what the president has used me to do in the Southeast and let Igbos be the judge.”
