Emir’s Palace, NDLEA office set ablaze as residents protest in Kwara state

Residents of Lafiagi in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State staged a protest on Monday over escalating insecurity in their communities, including frequent incidents of kidnapping, killings, and terrorism.

Mostly made up of angry youths, the protesters accused government authorities of inaction despite the worsening violence. In a viral video, they were seen chanting and holding placards while demanding urgent intervention.

Amid the chaos, the protesters reportedly set fire to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) office and vandalized the Emir of Lafiagi’s palace, breaking windows and damaging parts of the structure.

“We are dying in silence. People are being kidnapped weekly, and no one, neither the governor, local officials, nor the Emir, is responding,” a resident lamented in the video.

The demonstration was reportedly fueled by accumulated frustration over the authorities’ failure to address the growing wave of abductions. Sources confirmed that Lafiagi and surrounding areas have seen a spike in kidnappings, with many victims still in captivity and families paying heavy ransoms.

Just a day before the protest, three Fulani women were reportedly abducted in the area.
