Lagos govt shuts down churches, bakeries, hotels for noise pollution

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, LASEPA, has sealed multiple facilities across the state for violating environmental regulations, with a particular focus on noise pollution.

The enforcement operation, carried out on Wednesday, targeted establishments in the Mainland axis, including Onike, Yaba, China Town, Ojota, Pedro, Bariga, Magodo, Shomolu, and Ebute Metta.

In a statement released on Friday, LASEPA disclosed that a wide range of premises, spanning religious institutions, hospitality venues, residential apartments, warehouses, and bakeries, were affected by the enforcement exercise. mong the facilities shut down were Suit Las Caracas, Forest Guzu Xinlong Zhongnia Horn Co. Ltd., Success Bakery, multiple residential apartment occupants, CCC Church and CCC Training Seminary, JP Ventures Bakery, and Aliya Bakery.

Speaking on the development, LASEPA’s General Manager, Dr Babatunde Ajayi, underscored the agency’s unwavering commitment to environmental protection and public health, stressing that noise pollution remains a serious threat to urban wellness.

“Our enforcement today is a clear message that we are committed to protecting the environment and ensuring a healthier Lagos,” he stated.

He urged individuals and organizations to comply with existing environmental laws, reaffirming LASEPA’s dedication to fostering a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable city for all residents.
