DSS reveals plans to extradite Simon Ekpa to Nigeria
A Federal High Court in Abuja was informed on May 2 that Simon Ekpa, a known associate of Nnamdi Kanu, embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), is expected to be extradited to Nigeria for prosecution. This was revealed by a Department of State Services (DSS) witness identified as PWAAA during Kanu’s ongoing trial.
The DSS operative testified that Ekpa is targeted for allegedly supporting Kanu’s secessionist agenda. Under cross-examination, the witness admitted that knowledge of other IPOB supporters came primarily from media and social platforms and said Kanu’s statements about IPOB being peaceful or voluntary could not be confirmed.
The court also heard details of Kanu’s 2015 arrest at a Lagos hotel and reviewed a list of seized items, including electronics, personal effects, and documents, which were admitted into evidence. The witness said Kanu’s statement was taken without his lawyer present and noted that while no weapons were found, the use of recovered items could be interpreted as subversive.
Justice James Omotosho adjourned the trial to continue on May 6, 7, and 8.
