Bobrisky: Institutional issues will be addressed, no one will be shielded – Minister of Interior, Tunji-Ojo vows

Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has weighed in on the recent controversy involving popular cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky. The situation centers on allegations of special treatment during Bobrisky’s jail time, sparking wider discussions on systemic issues within the country’s correctional institutions.

Social commentator Very Dark Man recently shared an audio clip purportedly of Bobrisky, in which he claimed to have paid Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) officials to receive privileged treatment while in custody. The recording has since gone viral, leading to public outcry and raising concerns over corruption and accountability in the correctional system.

In an interview on Channels TV on November 12, Tunji-Ojo addressed the incident, describing it as a “reflection of institutional issues” and outlining the disciplinary measures in place for handling such allegations. He emphasized the importance of reform within the correctional system, highlighting the government’s commitment to addressing corruption and ensuring accountability across its institutions.

“There are disciplinary procedures. You have to go through the board. You don’t just take action. Of course, somebody as high as an ACG who was found culpable of giving those verbal instructions in this regard has been suspended. This is because we said we are not going to shield anybody.”
