Abuja National Mosque gets first Igbo Imam
Professor Iliyasu Usman has been appointed as the first Igbo Muslim to serve as an Imam at the Abuja National Mosque. He is set to deliver his inaugural sermon during Jumm’at prayers today.
The appointment has been widely celebrated, particularly by the South East Muslim Organisation of Nigeria (SEMON), which recognizes it as a testament to Usman’s dedication to Islamic scholarship. SEMON also praised the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) for its inclusiveness under the leadership of the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar.
The organization expressed hope that Usman’s leadership would strengthen the Igbo Muslim community and promote unity within the broader Muslim population in Nigeria.
