New Presidential Jet was bought below market price, saves Nigeria huge maintenance and fuel cost – Onanuga explains

Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Tinubu, has explained the reasons behind the purchase of a new presidential jet.

He stated that the new Airbus A330, which replaces the 19-year-old Boeing B737-700 (BBJ) acquired during President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration, will save Nigeria significant maintenance and fuel costs, amounting to millions of dollars annually. Onanuga also noted that the plane was purchased at a price well below its market value.

Onanuga in a tweet he shared explained that the decision to replace the B737-700 (BBJ) followed an investigative hearing by Nigeria’s parliament, which raised concerns about the plane’s safety record and cost efficiency, especially after it malfunctioned during a trip to Saudi Arabia.

He further highlighted that the new plane is more spacious and comes equipped with state-of-the-art avionics, a customized interior, and advanced communication systems.
