The conflict between Fubara and Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has caused chaos in the state. Local Government Chairmen, expected to vacate their offices on Monday after their tenures expired, were attacked by youths on Tuesday when attempting to access their offices.
There were reports of sporadic shootings in Port Harcourt by the Rivers State Police command. Chairmen loyal to Wike asserted that the state House of Assembly extended their tenures by six months.
Reacting to the crisis on her X handle, Aisha Yesufu criticized Wike’s involvement and stated that President Bola Tinubu would prefer to deal with Fubara, emphasizing that Wike is no longer relevant to Rivers State’s political structure.
She wrote, “Wike thought he was smart and decided to dine with the devil not knowing he was on the menu.
“A powerless Wike is a great asset to Tinubu and Tinubu will ensure every power that Wike has is stripped so he becomes a proper errand boy that can be controlled completely.
“Without the structure of Rivers State Wike is a haggard old politician and I bet you Tinubu will rather have a deal with Fubara than Wike”.
