Minimum Wage:“I can’t afford to pay my driver one hundred thousand” – George Akume
George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, has expressed concerns over the impracticality of the wage increase demands from organized labour.
He conveyed this during a Thursday meeting in Abuja with the National Executive Council of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN). The former Governor of Benue State urged the Christian community to support the ongoing negotiations of the tripartite Committee on minimum wage. Akume noted that paying a minimum wage of N100,000 to his drivers would be a challenging obligation.
“I can’t afford to pay my driver one hundred thousand because they are four,” Akume lamented.
He decried the demands made by the organised labour, adding, “Where do we get that money from?”w
