Several persons burnt to death as fuel tanker explodes on East-West road in Rivers state (photos)
At least 100 individuals are feared to have perished in a tragic incident where a tanker carrying petroleum products caught fire along the Eleme section of the East-West road in Rivers State on the night of April 26. Reports indicate that the explosion occurred when the tanker, navigating the deteriorated road, collided with another heavy-duty vehicle, leading to flames and subsequent explosions.
The resulting inferno engulfed numerous vehicles on the road, trapping occupants who were unable to escape the rapidly spreading fire. Although many managed to flee their vehicles as the flames intensified, unfortunately, some were not as fortunate.
The precise extent of the damage and the number of casualties are yet to be confirmed. The Eleme section of the East-West road has gained notoriety for its perilous conditions, prompting repeated protests from concerned citizens demanding immediate repairs.
