We demand public holidays – Wole Soyinka speaks on behalf of Traditional Worshippers

Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has made a call to the Federal Government to declare a national public holiday dedicated to traditionalists in the country.

Soyinka emphasized that traditionalists have been overlooked and neglected for an extended period in the nation, and it is now essential to recognize their contribution and significance.

He advocated that traditional religions deserve annual holidays, just like Islam and Christianity.

“We’ve had enough, We’ve had enough of being second-class citizens in this nation. So, equal time, equal space, we demand public holidays,” he asserted.

According to Soyinka, the national holiday should be acknowledged and celebrated by state governments, local governments, and the Federal Government alike.
