“Pride goes before fall, watch your utterances” – Bamgbose cautions Sunday Igboho

Olusegun Bamgbose, Esq., National Coordinator, Concerned Advocates for Good Governance, CAGG, has cautioned popular Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho to eschew arrogance and pomposity of any form. He advised him to watch his utterances because “pride goes before a fall”.

The senior lawyer was angered by recent statements credited to Igboho where he said he will open the borders, invade the palace of Alake of Egba land and on another occasion threatened to shoot any Yoruba man who will show interest in the 2023 Presidential elections.

Bamgbose said although it is never a crime for one to air their views on burning national issues, such freedoms of expression and speech should be within the confines of the law.

He said;

“The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land guarantees the rights of citizens. Freedom of expression is guaranteed by our Constitution, as well as freedom of speech. However all these should be within the confines of the law,”

“Sunday Ighoho has every right to express himself, however, one will want to caution him seriously about his recent outbursts. He once lambasted Ooni of Ife calling him names, thank God that has been resolved.

“However recently he made a statement that he will open the borders, his spokesman also recently stated that they will invade the palace of Alake of Egba land.

“As if that was not enough, Sunday Ighoho himself recently said he will shoot any Yoruba man who will show interest in 2023 Presidential elections. This is nothing but a display of arrogance and disrespect to the traditional institutions.

“Much as I appreciate his passion to put an end to kidnapping in the South West, courtesy demands that he has to respect the custodian of our cultures and traditions. Insulting and lambasting and calling them names should not be encouraged. As a Yoruba man, he should exhibit respect for his elders.

“He should eschew arrogance and pomposity in any form. Pride goes before fall. He should keenly watch his utterances that may be provocative and insulting. Threatening to shoot those who are interested in the 2023 Presidential election is ethically outrageous.

“In order to express himself, he should avoid infringing on other people’s rights. His spokesman should always do the needful. He should be extremely cautious as per his utterances. It’s capable of destroying his mission.”

  1. His spokesperson should know how to talk to other people including other tribes in order to respect their own right too

  2. I salute the courage of him because he doesn’t want those herdsmen to take over our land, that’s why he is tackling them
