Amnesty International calls on FG to drop charges against Sowore, Others
Human rights organization, Amnesty International has called on the Federal Government to release Omoyele Sowore and his colleagues that were arraigned by the Abuja Police Command over a protest on New Year’s Eve
The organization condemned the arrest of Sowore in a series of tweets on Saturday and demanded that the charges against the detained activists be dropped.
According to them, Sowore and the others were unlawfully arrested on Friday last week as they peacefully exercised their rights to freedom of assembly and expression.
It accused the Nigerian government of using delay tactics to frustrate the bail applications of the activists who have spent eight days in detention which is arbitrary and has shown a continued pattern of repression by the authorities.
See the tweets below:
“Amnesty International is appalled by the delay tactics that the Nigerian authorities are using to frustrate the bail applications of Sowore, Juwon, Damilare, Kimrele and Peter.
“Their arbitrary detention shows a continues pattern of repression by the Nigerian authorities. We therefore call for their immediate release and all charges against them dropped.
The whole world is watching how this government is working tirelessly with the judiciary to shut the mouth of her citizens from speaking against there bad policies. Everything that has beginning has an end
That is true cuz they have done nothing wrong….
Its only in Buharis administration that protest is a crime. Its the right of citizen to protest over bad policies and high-handedness. To shun citizens from protests amount to tyranny and Buhari as a tyrant doesn’t bate an eyelid to clamp protesters to jail. Recall that in the last administration when Buhari was in opposition, he staged series of protests but was never arrested nor molested. This government is a government without human face that does everything like the country is in military era.
This present administration fun of oppressing people who always want to say the truth about their bad governance in the country, international community should come in to rescue us from their hands.
This man has done nothing that warrant this treatment the federal government just want to silence him which won’t possible.
Even all these court of a thing are just deliver their judgement in favor of government not according to the cases.
They should have release this man unconditionally, they are just using the court of law to punish him, that’s all.
What federal government are doing to the CEO of Sahara reporter👉 omoyele sowore is just because of power of government….it shows omoyele sowore we become president of the republic of Nigeria one day. Mark my words.
