Ghana President, Nana Akufo-Addo elected new chairman of ECOWAS
The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, has been elected the new Chairman of the Economic Community of West Africa States, ECOWAS. Akufo-Addo was elected as the new ECOWAS Chair at the ongoing 57th Summit in Niamey, Republic of Niger. Recall that Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari had during the summit warned African leaders against the unnecessary elongation of tenure in office. Abubakar Usman Mabera, chairman of Sokoto state Ulama forum of Izala, says any Muslim lawyer who defends Yahaya Sharif-Aminu, the musician sentenced to death in Kano state for blasphemy has renounced Islam. Sharif-Aminu was sentenced to death by hanging on August 10 after he was found guilty of blasphemy against the Prophet Muhammad, an act which has since caused an outcry among Nigerians.
