The half-brother of Obafemi Hamzat, the deputy governor of Lagos state, Haroun, has died. A medical doctor by profession, Haroun, 37, died after testing positive for COVID19. Until his death, late Haroun worked at a primary healthcare centre in Orile Agege local council development area of the state. Kano stops payment of 30k minimum wage, reverts to 18k
The Kano government has stopped payment of N30,000 minimum wage to civil servants in the state and have now reverted to the former N18,000 minimum wage. Salihu Tanko-Yakasai, spokesperson to Governor Abdullahi Ganduje said they reverted to the former minimum wage due to ‘COVID-19-induced recession’. FCMB appoints acting Managing Director, Yemisi Edun
The First City Monument Bank (FCMB) has announced the appointment of Yemisi Edun as its acting managing director. Edun takes over the running of the bank from the Managing Director, Adam Nuru, who on Tuesday, January 5, proceeded on leave amid allegations of marital infidelity involving him and a former staff of the bank, Moyo Thomas. University of Lagos loses another Professor
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has lost another professor, Duro Ajeyalemi barely three days after former Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oyewusi Ibidapo-Obe reportedly died of COVID-19 complications. Ajeyalemi retired from UNILAG after he clocked 70 years in 2020. He was the former Dean of Student Affairs and immediate past Registrar, Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB). He became an Associate Professor in 1989 and was appointed Professor of Curriculum Studies in 1992. The deceased was a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (1984), and National Association for Research in Science Teaching, USA (1990).

FG to borrow dormant account balances and unclaimed dividends from Nigerians
The Federal government has announced that it will be borrowing from Nigerians unclaimed dividends and dormant bank account balances that have been left for up to at least six years. According to the Finance act 2020 which the president signed into law, the remitted funds will be available as special credit to the federal government through the Unclaimed Funds Trust Fund.
