Tanzania’s Vice President, Samia Suluhu Hassan was on Friday sworn in as the country’s first female president after the sudden death of John Magufuli from a mysterious illness. Hassan, from the island of Zanzibar, will complete Magufuli’s second five-year tenure, set to run until 2025. She will be the country’s sixth President. Sunday Igboho declares independence, says Yoruba land no longer part of Nigeria
Popular Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho has declared the Independence of the ‘Yoruba nation’. According to him, the South-Western states are no longer a part of Nigeria. He made the declaration during a conference in Ibadan, Oyo state, insisting that it was high time the Yoruba became a sovereign nation. Former lawmaker, Senator Dino Melaye has advised President Muhammadu Buhari against spending money on renovating the Port Harcourt refinery The Federal Executive Council (FEC), had on Wednesday approved $1.5 billion for the repair of the Port Harcourt refinery. Reacting to this development, Melaye on his Twitter page expressed disapproval. A staff of the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company, IKEDC, was stabbed on the head with a broken bottle when he tried to disconnect power from a community. According to reports, the community in Lagos has not had power supply for three weeks and the IKEDC staff went to disconnect power from those who had not paid their bills.
