Many African priests are relocating to the United States thanks to the Catholic Church. Some American dioceses have been looking to expand their clergy with African priests as that continent experiences a boom in Catholicism. This push comes as the number of priests in the U.S. is dropping significantly. According to Georgetown University’s Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate, the number of priests in the country dropped by 60 percent from 1970 to 2020.
