“Isn’t public opinion an ingredient to the Government?”- Sultan of Sokoto speaks on killings in the North
Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III has reacted to the incessant killings in the northern part of the country.
Speaking in a statement by JNI’s Secretary General, Dr Khalid Abubakar Aliyu, the Sultan said these acts should give those in leadership sleepless nights.
The Northern youths and other Northern groups have all written to the president to checkmate these killings making the Sultan question if public opinions do not count in this government.
“The repeated massacre of people, as well as the senseless burning of houses and livestock in Borno, Katsina, Sokoto, Zamfara, Niger states and indeed other states such as Adamawa, Kaduna and Taraba, should give governments and its functionaries at both federal and state levels sleepless nights.
“By now, an instantaneous pronouncement followed by robust actions should have been made by the government of the day, not verbal warnings and condemnations dished out to the perpetrators of the murderous acts.
“Isn’t the government of the day a popular government? Is it not a participatory government?
“Why doesn’t public opinion(s) matter to it? Or isn’t public opinion(s) considered an ingredient to the government of the day?”
As we all know that government of now adays doesn’t listen to public opinion/outcry anymore, we asked them to set aside renovation of NASS, do they listen? No! and many more of it, look at the rate which bandits and bokoharam are operating is worry some. Governments in all ramifications should rise up to the task in front of them in terms of security, economic growth, poverty alleviation, job creation etc.
Kokorokoooo, day don break ooooo, for the Sultan. U aint seen nothing. The presidency as we have come to know as our president, is deaf, dumb and blind. These sicknesses are the worst kind to befalf anyone. So Sultan save ur breath. Buhari is not in charge
The current adminstration is no longer running on democracy because democracy involves the voice of the people.Rather this Buhari government is running on autocracy as they shut and deafen their ears to listen to the wails of the public. Please, we want a peaceful and calm society
Thank you Sultan for speaking out
