Tinubu has abdicated presidency to cabal, APM alleges
The Allied Peoples Movement, APM, has alleged that President Bola Tinubu has abdicated the running of Nigeria to family members, principal aides and other unelected persons, accusing him of lacking the capacity to provide effective leadership.
The party said the alleged leadership vacuum was reflected in the administration’s handling of insecurity, the economy and Nigeria’s international engagements, insisting that the country needs a more energetic and hands-on leader ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, on Friday, the APM said those around the President had effectively taken control of the administration.
“The Party also asserts that President Tinubu has abdicated his official duties to a cabal comprising of family members, principal aides and other unelected persons who have seized control of the administration,” Yusuf said.
The APM also criticised Tinubu’s absence from some international engagements, particularly the United Nations General Assembly, arguing that it weakened Nigeria’s representation at a time the country needed high-level diplomatic engagement.
“Mr. President’s repeated absence at meetings of world leaders, particularly, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) also underscores his inability to effectively represent, propagate and drive Nigeria’s interest at the global level,” the party said.
On insecurity, the party questioned the President’s direct engagement with communities affected by terrorism, kidnapping and banditry, as well as with victims and grieving families.
“Is it not absurd that President Tinubu has never visited any of the communities being ravaged by terrorists, kidnappers and bandits? Is it not equally absurd that President Tinubu has never directly met with grieving families and victims?” it asked.
The APM claimed that more than 600,000 Nigerians had been killed and many others abducted by terrorist elements in the last three years, blaming what it called the administration’s ‘languid approach’ to insecurity.
The party also attacked the government’s economic policies, including the removal of fuel subsidy, tax measures and external borrowing, alleging that they had worsened pressure on businesses and households.
It cited unemployment of 33.3 per cent and a poverty rate of 63 per cent, claiming that more than 140 million Nigerians had been pushed into severe economic hardship.
On debt, the APM put Nigeria’s burden at N159.28 trillion and alleged that the borrowing had produced little visible benefit, while claiming that more than 3.7 million Nigerians had left the country in the “Japa” wave, deepening the loss of skilled professionals in critical sectors.
The party said the combined challenges meant Nigeria could not afford another four years under the Tinubu administration.
“The fact is that Nigeria cannot afford another four years under such an insensitive and rudderless administration. President Tinubu must understand that Nigeria requires a leader with full stamina, who is present, accessible and fully engaged in governance,” the APM said.
The party’s alternative is its presidential candidate, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, whom it described as a younger, energetic and experienced leader with a blueprint to ‘Reset Nigeria’.
It said Makinde’s record in Oyo State demonstrated the kind of leadership it wanted to bring to the federal level.
The APM therefore urged Tinubu to abandon his alleged plan to seek another term and support Makinde in the 2027 presidential election.
“Governance cannot be left to uncertainty, nor can the lives of about 250 million Nigerians be placed on autopilot,” the party said.
