Toyin Abraham Rejects Lagos APC Campaign Role, Denies Influence of Online Bullying

Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham has clarified her rejection of an appointment to the Lagos State All Progressives Congress Campaign Council, explaining that her name was added without her knowledge. Addressing the issue on X on Friday, she emphasized that she has completely stepped away from political involvement.

The actress spoke out after a user suggested her exit might shield her from persistent social media harassment. Rejecting that premise, she clarified her motivations directly. “Bro, I didn’t do it because of any bully. I did it because it was the right thing to do. I woke up and saw my name on a list I knew absolutely nothing about,” she wrote.

Firmly reiterating her stance, she added that public commentary had no bearing on her decision to step back from political activities. “Moreover, I’ve already said it—I’m not interested in politics. Lawyer Nupe I love u and thanks for love and support,” she wrote.

Abraham had earlier urged the public to disregard her inclusion in the council’s Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate alongside other high-profile entertainers. “I’m not a member of any campaign council. I have said it recently. I am staying out of politics. Please disregard the supposed inclusion of my name in any campaign committee,” she had said.

The controversy comes three years after her public support for President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 election sparked intense social media backlash. Despite her public disclaimer, the actress remains listed as a member of the 33-person directorate in the official campaign document.
