“Atiku Gave Na’Abba ₦5m to Begin My Impeachment” — Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has alleged that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar financed an attempt to impeach him during his first term in office by giving the late Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Na’Abba, ₦5 million.

Responding to comments by former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba, Obasanjo claimed the impeachment plot was orchestrated from within the Presidency after Atiku allegedly held a private meeting with Na’Abba.

According to the former president, Atiku believed he should serve only one term and encouraged the late Speaker to initiate impeachment proceedings against him.

Obasanjo further alleged that the meeting and the ₦5 million payment were documented and later reported to him by his Chief of Staff, whom he described as a professional intelligence officer.

Despite the alleged plot, Obasanjo said he remained unfazed because he believed there were no constitutional grounds to remove him from office.

The latest claim adds to the long-standing political rivalry between Obasanjo and Atiku, whose relationship has remained strained since they served together in office between 1999 and 2007.
