“I Stopped Buying Gifts for Men After My Ex Betrayed Me” — Toke Makinwa
Media personality and actress Toke Makinwa has revealed why she no longer buys gifts for men she is romantically involved with, citing a painful experience from her university days.
Speaking on a recent episode of her Toke Moments podcast, Makinwa recalled dating an older man while she was an undergraduate and using her school fees to fund his birthday celebration.
According to her, she later discovered that the man had been cheating on her, an experience she described as deeply traumatic and one that changed her outlook on relationships.
“I stopped buying men gifts after I dated a man who was 10 years older than me. I spent my university semester’s school fees to celebrate his birthday and took him to an Italian restaurant in Victoria Island.
“He ordered everything on the menu. When we got home…there was another woman in his house. That broke me,” she stated.
