Discovery of Aborted Twins at Plateau Refuse Dump Sparks Outrage
Residents of the Special Site area in Pankshin Local Government Area, Plateau State, were left in shock on Thursday following the grim discovery of aborted twins abandoned at a refuse dump. The foetuses, a male and a female estimated to be over five months old, were found discarded in a polythene bag.
The discovery was made behind the residence of a commercial driver, Enman Danladi, who was alerted by a local farmer. The farmer had noticed a dog repeatedly sniffing at a suspicious bag swarmed by flies. Upon investigating and opening the bag, the farmer found the remains of the twins and immediately raised the alarm.
“He drove the dog away several times before opening the bag and finding the aborted twins,” Danladi recounted. The sight drew a crowd of somber neighbors to the scene, where the atmosphere quickly turned from shock to intense anger and grief.
In a somber communal effort, Danladi and about eight other neighbors dug a small grave at the site to provide a dignified burial for the remains. While the men expressed outrage and cursed those responsible for the act, the women in the community were seen weeping openly, with one resident struggling with infertility reportedly inconsolable.
Regarding potential leads, Danladi noted that no one within the immediate neighborhood was currently under suspicion. He suggested that such incidents are often carried out by individuals from outside the area to avoid detection and tracing by local authorities or residents.
The incident has raised significant concerns among Pankshin residents regarding the safety and moral climate of the community. As of Thursday evening, local authorities have been urged to investigate the matter to prevent a recurrence of such a “barbaric” act in the area.
