”Tinubu is so formidable that you are not just going to produce a candidate who can take him out” – Dele Momodu Urges ADC to Prioritise Strategy, Unity Ahead of 2027

Media entrepreneur and opposition figure Dele Momodu has advised the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to adopt a clear, strategy-driven approach if it hopes to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.

Speaking in a television interview, Momodu stressed that winning elections goes beyond popularity, noting that structure, funding, and experience play decisive roles.

He emphasised the importance of political structure, citing ethnicity, religion, and financial resources as key factors in elections, while warning that time is running out for the opposition to unite.

Momodu insisted that no individual should dominate the ADC, stating that candidates must emerge through strategy rather than personal influence. He noted that experienced figures like Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi are already within reach and should be leveraged.

He also dismissed claims of a fixed North-South power rotation, arguing that the constitution allows any qualified candidate to contest.

Advising on strategy, Momodu urged the ADC to focus on northern Nigeria, pointing to growing dissatisfaction within the APC as an opportunity.

He concluded by calling for unity and compromise among opposition leaders, stressing that only a coordinated and strategic approach can challenge Tinubu’s political strength.

“What it takes to win an election is not just the crowd; it is not just the noise; it is not just your ideas; it is not how brilliant you are. Tinubu is so formidable that you are not just going to produce a candidate who can take him out. It doesn’t work that way,” he said.

Momodu emphasized the importance of political structure and experience, recalling past elections. “You need structures. I was part of the Buhari movement. The amount of money spent on monitoring every polling unit nationwide that is what wins elections. The three major factors that affect elections are ethnicity, religion, and a lot of cash.”

He warned: “Time is not on our side. We must come together immediately and make a decision. How? I don’t know, but it must be done.”
