Police Arrest All Suspects in Igbinedion School Bullying Case, to be charged as juveniles

The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of all suspects linked to the bullying incident at Igbinedion Education Centre, following widespread outrage over a viral video showing a student being brutally assaulted by peers.

In a statement, police spokesperson Eno Ikoedem said the suspects were apprehended after thorough investigations and will be charged to the family court in line with juvenile justice and child protection laws. The school had earlier expelled students involved in the incident.

Preliminary findings revealed the violence stemmed from a dispute between students, which escalated into multiple retaliatory attacks, including an assault on a parent and a revenge attack captured in the viral video.

In response, the Commissioner of Police has ordered the expansion of the Operation Safe Schools Initiative and increased sensitisation efforts to curb violence in schools.

The command urged parents and school authorities to strengthen supervision, while advising students to avoid violence and report issues through proper channels, assuring the public that justice will be served and preventive measures are being put in place.
