Peter Obi Supporters Launch “Village Boys Movement” for 2027
Supporters of Peter Obi have officially launched a new civic platform called the Village Boys Movement in Abuja. This initiative marks a significant step in grassroots mobilization as political alignments begin to solidify ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Convener Maazị Tochukwu Ezeoke described the platform as a disciplined nationwide movement centered on service-driven leadership.
Ezeoke, who refers to himself as the National Village Headmaster, framed the movement as a moral alternative to the prevailing political culture. He criticized existing systems that reward proximity to state resources rather than genuine productivity. Highlighting the group’s foundational ethics, he stated, “We represent a Nigeria that works before it earns and earns before it spends.”
The movement is built upon three core principles: wealth must follow value, power must follow service, and leadership must follow accountability. Ezeoke clarified that the group’s name is not a critique of urban life but a distinction in political values. He explained, “This is not hostility toward cities. It is a moral contrast. The issue is not geography but the source of wealth, the ethics of leadership, and the structure of accountability.”
While the group aligns with Peter Obi’s political philosophy, Ezeoke emphasized that their support is based on standards of governance rather than personality cults. He praised Obi’s track record of fiscal prudence while maintaining a grounded perspective on leadership. Regarding the former governor, he noted, “He is not a messiah. Nigeria does not require a saviour figure. Nigeria requires standards.”
The movement also introduced its official motto: “Unbought. Unafraid. Unstoppable.” This slogan is intended to represent a firm resistance against common political ailments such as vote-buying and intimidation. Ezeoke believes these values will empower citizens to reclaim their political agency and demand better from their representatives.
To demonstrate their reach, the Village Boys Movement announced plans for a Two Million Man March across all 36 states and the FCT. These rallies are intended to be volunteer-funded and peaceful, serving as a prelude to a deeper network-building strategy. The goal is to establish a presence in every ward and polling unit to monitor budgets and ensure election integrity.
Ezeoke concluded the launch by urging the Nigerian youth to remain firm against electoral inducements. He challenged them to maintain their integrity throughout the upcoming political cycle to ensure a shift toward ethical governance. He declared, “If you refuse to sell your vote, you are unbought. If you refuse to be intimidated, you are unafraid. If you organise lawfully and consistently, you are unstoppable.”
