Kano ADC Chairman Slams Nigerian Government, Says Nnamdi Kanu Jailed While Bello Turji Roams Free
The Chairman of the African Democratic Congress in Kano State, Alhaji Musa Ungoggo, has publicly criticized the Nigerian government for what he describes as selective justice. He raised concerns over the uneven handling of security and judicial processes across different regions of the country.
Ungoggo questioned why the Federal Government has kept separatist leader Nnamdi Kanu in detention while the notorious bandit kingpin, Bello Turji, continues to operate without arrest. He accused the APC-led administration of applying the law based on political and regional interests.
The ADC leader highlighted the efficiency used to capture and extradite the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra. “They arrested Nnamdi Kanu, extradited him to Nigeria, prosecuted him, and today he is in prison. Judgment was passed, he was taken to court, and the process was completed,” Ungoggo said.
He noted that Kanu’s case proves the government can fully deploy its intelligence and legal machinery when it is determined to do so. However, he expressed frustration that this same resolve is missing when dealing with the terror caused by bandits in the North.
Addressing the situation in Zamfara State, Ungoggo pointed out that Turji remains at large despite being linked to widespread killings and kidnappings. “They failed to catch Bello Turji from Shinkafi red-handed and bring him to Abuja to give him the same treatment,” Ungoggo said.
The politician warned that the failure to apprehend the bandit leader sends a dangerous signal to the public and encourages further criminality. “Bello Turji is still roaming freely in Shinkafi, Zamfara State, while innocent citizens continue to suffer,” he added.
Security in the North-West remains at a crisis point as bandit groups continue to terrorize rural communities and extort levies. Ungoggo described the disparity in the government’s response to these different threats as both painful and hazardous for the nation’s stability.
