“Resign If You Can’t Behave” — APC Secretary Blasts Wike Over Party Crisis
The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, has issued a strong warning to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, accusing him of trying to destabilise the ruling party.
In a statement released in Abuja, Basiru said Wike should resign from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet if he cannot stop interfering in APC internal matters. He stressed that it is inappropriate for a minister serving under an APC-led government to allegedly cause division within the party.
The disagreement followed comments made by APC Vice Chairman (South-South), Victor Giadom, who referred to Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara as a “so-called governor.” Basiru criticised the remark, insisting that the office of a sitting governor deserves respect, regardless of political differences.
Wike responded sharply during a visit to Rivers State, warning Basiru to stay out of Rivers politics and declaring the state a “no-go area” for interference. He accused some political actors of exploiting the state’s resources and issued strong verbal threats against those making comments about Rivers affairs.
In his counter-response, Basiru said his role as National Secretary requires him to protect the interests of the APC nationwide and not just in his home state of Osun. He dismissed Wike’s claims as blackmail, challenged him to provide evidence, and maintained that Wike is not a member of the APC despite his public support for President Tinubu.
Basiru concluded by warning that support for the President does not equal party membership and insisted that any attempt to import opposition-style politics into the APC would not be tolerated.
