I will deliver Abia to APC in 2027– Orji Uzor Kalu
In a significant political declaration to begin the new year, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has vowed to lead a major offensive to bring Abia State under the control of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027. Speaking on Friday, January 2, 2026, during his annual visit to the Ebonyi State APC Chairman, Stanley Okoro-Emegha, in Ekoli, Edda Local Government Area, the former governor signaled an end to the political truce currently existing between his camp and the incumbent administration.
Kalu, who currently represents Abia North in the Senate, emphasized that his primary objective for the next election cycle is to deliver a landslide victory for President Bola Tinubu and the APC gubernatorial candidate in Abia. While acknowledging a personal relationship with Governor Alex Otti of the Labour Party, Kalu made it clear that partisan goals would take precedence.
“The incumbent governor, Dr. Alex Otti, is my friend, but I am not discussing friendship in politics, only the total victory of the APC in the elections. I will put my heart on the field to ensure that the APC wins landslide in Abia at the election.”
Beyond state politics, the Senator addressed the national security situation, urging state governors to stop deferring the responsibility of safety entirely to the federal government. Drawing from his tenure as governor (1999–2007), he claimed to have maintained an environment free of kidnapping and high-level crime, suggesting that modern state executives should take a more proactive approach. He particularly praised Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru for his success in maintaining regional stability.
The visit also served to reinforce Kalu’s long-standing alliance with the Ebonyi APC Chairman, Stanley Okoro-Emegha. Kalu described the chairman as an “embodiment of loyalty” whom he has mentored since childhood. He recalled advising Okoro-Emegha to maintain absolute loyalty to former Governor David Umahi, a virtue he noted the chairman has successfully transitioned to the current administration. This display of regional solidarity underscores the APC’s renewed strategy to consolidate its influence across the South East ahead of 2027.
