“It’s a Spiritual Assignment” – Fubara speaks on why he defected to APC

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has explained his decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as a “spiritual assignment” aligned with the interest of the state.

Fubara, who officially defected earlier in the week, spoke on Friday at the Government House in Port Harcourt after receiving his APC membership card from the state chairman, Chief Tony Okocha. He said his defection was driven by the need to work in harmony with President Bola Tinubu and support his re-election bid.

According to the governor, Rivers State must not move in a different direction from the President.
“Joining the APC is part of our commitment to ensure a seamless working relationship and contribute meaningfully to his re-election efforts in Rivers State,” Fubara said.

He added that the alignment would boost stability, development, and cooperation between the state and the federal government.

Fubara thanked the APC leadership for the warm reception and pledged to strengthen the party’s structure in Rivers State. He assured members and executives of his full support moving forward.

“This is now your home, Mr Chairman… We will keep the APC active and fully functional in Rivers State,” he stated.
