Name those Involved – Ex-nPDP Spokesman Eze Slams Orji Kalu Over Claims That Politicians Sponsor Banditry
Former National Publicity Secretary of the now-defunct nPDP, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has sharply criticised Senator Orji Uzor Kalu for alleging that politicians are behind the rise in banditry across Nigeria.
In a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Monday, Eze described Kalu’s claims as “disgraceful,” “unsubstantiated,” and a display of “sycophancy and betrayal” common among some Nigerian politicians.
He questioned how “a sane mind” could accuse opposition figures of sponsoring violence simply to destabilise President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
According to Eze, instead of pointing fingers, Kalu should boldly tell President Tinubu the truth — that insecurity has worsened under his leadership and the country is “sitting on a keg of gunpowder.”
He urged Kalu to focus on offering solutions to kidnappings and killings rather than trying to curry favour with the presidency.
“What Tinubu needs now is visionary, truthful and proactive friends, not lily-livered politicians,” he added.
Eze also addressed Senator Adams Oshiomhole, who had echoed Kalu’s claims, insisting that Nigeria’s insecurity is not politically orchestrated but rather a sign of the administration’s failure to protect its citizens.
He dismissed the narrative of a political agenda behind the violence, calling instead for Tinubu to “sit up” and focus on governance rather than the 2027 elections.
Challenging both senators, Eze demanded they name the alleged sponsors of insecurity if they truly know them. Failure to do so, he said, amounts to cowardice and suggests they may be complicit.
“It is unfortunate that instead of addressing the real issues, they prefer to blame opposition politicians at home and abroad without naming a single person,” Eze concluded.
