Report any VIPs you see using police escorts – Presidency urges Nigerians
President Bola Tinubu’s administration is urging citizens to assist in enforcing the recent directive withdrawing police escorts from private individuals and unauthorized VIPs.
In an interview on TVC, Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Daniel Bwala, called for public support to ensure the policy’s effectiveness. He emphasized that community involvement is essential for proper implementation, as the measure aims to reallocate police personnel to essential security operations.
Bwala encouraged Nigerians to document and report any violations they witness, suggesting the use of photos or videos as evidence.
He clarified, however, that not all officials are affected, certain high-ranking government personnel will continue to receive protection based on their official roles and security requirements.
This move is part of the Federal Government’s wider effort to optimize the use of security resources, minimize misuse of police personnel, and strengthen public safety across the nation. Recent reforms reflect concerns that too many officers are assigned to private guard duties rather than frontline policing.
