“Even One Million Lawyers Wouldn’t Have Changed Nnamdi Kanu’s Fate” – Former Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor

Former counsel to IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, Aloy Ejimakor, says nothing, not even an army of lawyers, could have altered the court’s decision to convict Kanu of terrorism.

Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Monday, Ejimakor dismissed claims that stronger legal representation might have changed the verdict.

“I don’t believe one million lawyers standing behind Nnamdi Kanu would have changed the outcome of the case,” he said.

While insisting he disagreed with the judgment, Ejimakor acknowledged that the court believed it had enough evidence, although he personally saw no clear link between Kanu’s broadcasts and the violence in the South-East.

He argued that the violence persisted even in Kanu’s absence:

“The violence continues today. Is it still the broadcasts?”

Ejimakor went on to compare Kanu’s case to historic political trials, citing Jesus before Pontius Pilate, Nelson Mandela, and Obafemi Awolowo, individuals he said were convicted not because of concrete evidence, but because the “system had already made up its mind.”

According to him, Kanu’s ordeal followed the same pattern from the moment he was “seized in Kenya.”

Last Thursday, the Federal High Court in Abuja convicted Kanu on seven counts of terrorism and sentenced him to life imprisonment.

Ejimakor concluded that, based on how the case unfolded, the conviction appeared inevitable, regardless of the legal team behind Kanu.
